The 3/50 Project – Supporting Local Business
I came across a website that I wanted to share. You can find them at www.the350project.net. They are all about supporing local business and helping the local economy with a simple concept of 3/50/68/1 -
First think of 3 local independent businesses you would miss the most of they were gone. Some local faves of mine that I would miss terribly if they were ever to disappear are Measured To Fit, River Station Restaurant and Lolas Cafe. Go in, say hello and pick up a little something. In my case, I have done that very recently with each of my top 3.
Next try to spend $50 in 3 stores in the next month. If half the population did this, The 3/50 Project says we would have $42.6 billion dollars in revenue flowing through local business.
They also say that for every $100 spent, $68 of it goes to the local economy by way of payroll expenses, rent, insurance, etc. Spent at a national chain, only $43 stays.
And of course the number 1 is how many people it takes to start this awesome trend. You. =)
I love this campaign. I think it is so thoughtful and because it is national, it can reach in every corner of local America. They have lots of ways to support and promote this program for both the Local Business Owner as well as supporters that are not LBOs but are wanting to support a strong economy. They have window clings, fliers, banners and even PSAs that can be promoted on local radio.
Best yet, if you REGISTER and become a member/supporter and then put their badge on your site they will link to you. That’s a great quality back link to help promote your site. It’s free, pro-active and supports an amazing program.
Check ‘em out, follow ‘em, become a fan and help support local business. Elizabeth Boutique, The Country Gallery and The Dreaming Goddess of Poughkeepsie have already become members. AllThatInternet.net has too.
Enjoy! Post comments. I’d love to know your thoughts.
