Web may take over store fronts in 2010
I have written about the rise of the internet for business many times and recently read an article from the “Chicago Tribune” that further supports what I have been saying for the last year…
Using e-commerce on local business Web sites is no longer optional.
Wal-mart, JC Penny and Best-Buy, as well as other large retailers have committed to their online presence with a vengence offering Black Friday and Cyber Monday online only deals. They are ramping up their online presence and “diverting capital away from physical storefronts and to their Web sites, investing in the technology to make online shopping easier, faster and cheaper,” says Sandra M. Jones of the “Tribune”. What were your shopping trends over the holidays?
It is no longer just about having a web presence. It has to be dynamic and offer a way for “Newly frugal shoppers are turning to the Internet in droves to compare prices, hunt for bargains, download coupons and seek advice from fellow shoppers.”
Local businesses should look for an e-commerce website solution that offers the ease of use and functionality that the “big-byte” (aka “big box”) stores are looking for. There are affordable e-commerce solutions that give you coupon/promo code settings, comparison shopping, customer reviews, wishlists, recently viewed items, and more so that shoppers feel like they are empowered to buy. What do you find you like best about shopping online? What do you find you miss when shopping at many local online retailers?
It’s no longer about having a site to support your retail location. Now businesses need to strategically set up their Web presence to add an additional revenue stream to the revenue they are generating at your retail location.
There are many ways to create an online product to sell through your Web site and it doesn’t even require you to have an inventory of physical products to do it. Many online businesses sell services, e-books, and other content as a way to create an online revenue stream.
